We are home after 19 days 20 zillion miles, 40 buffalo, new tires, lost shoes, campfires, baby bear, lots of pizza, lots of mosquitos, quad rides, late nights, hot spring swims late at night, horse back rides, wine, treats, irrigation swims, Lewis and Clark obsession, steam showers, late dinners, sleeping in, Hope teething, expensive health food, freaky cabin, pot holes at night,
We visited a very small Orthodox church outside of Bozeman went to Yellowstone, stayed with “Rock Stars” in Whitefish, rented a House in Paradise Valley near yellowstone, ate out alot, I prefer eating in, we came home slept then rushed to a adoption gathering 2 hours away, I am sooooo tired!!!

Martin Luther King June 11, 2007

Martin Luther King described it in 1962. He said then:

When you have seen vicious mobs lynch your mothers and fathers at will and drown your sisters and brothers at whim; when you have seen hate-filled policemen curse, kick and even kill your black brothers and sisters; when you see the vast majority of your 20 million Negro brothers smothering in an airtight cage of poverty in the midst of an affluent society; when you suddenly find your tongue twisted and your speech stammering as you seek to explain to your six-year-old daughter why she can’t go to the public amusement park that has just been advertised on television, and see tears welling up in her eyes when she is told that Funtown is closed to colored children, and see ominous clouds of inferiority beginning to form in her little mental sky, and see her beginning to distort her personality by developing an unconscious bitterness toward white people; when you have to concoct an answer for a five-year-old son who is asking: “Daddy, why do white people treat colored people so mean?” when you are harried by day and haunted by night by the fact that you are a Negro, living constantly on tip-toe stance, never quite knowing what to expect next, and are plagued with inner fears and outer resentments; when you are forever fighting a degenerating sense of ‘nobodiness’—then,” King concluded, “you will understand.”

8 random things about me be prepared! June 11, 2007

Filed under: Mothering, large families, life, love, marriage, travel — emmelia @ 12:19 am

I have been tagged by a friend’s blog(check out her wonderful family at http://wildatheartfamily.blogspot.com/) to write 8 random things about me: they are all pretty intense so be prepared.

1. I grew up from the time I was 6 in a Migrant worker double decker school bus until I moved out at 16

2. I traveled Europe with a friend when I was 19 we got chased by 10 guys in florence and we were afraid for our lives we looked behind us then after, if I was not for us quickly turning and running the other way I don’t know what would have happened.

3. I got swept out to sea at age 6 before I knew how to swim at dusk on a raft made of drift wood, my brother and I got rescued by a drunk man in a canoe. it was a miracle no one knew we were even gone, and my mom just realized this year that it was so serious!!

4. I was doing my laundry in the basement in the projects in West Virginia at age 15, not knowing I was in the room with a suspected rapist, he was looking at me so weird and I asked him a question and he did not answer me.. scary!
My brother heard I was down there with him and came and got me. a neighbor told him

5. I sat on 4 butcher Knives when I was 6 my dad pulled them out, that was pre bus tent life, he then bandaged me up and put me to bed.

6. I confronted the man who “violated” me when I was a child and got him to admit it to my parents and a pastor in writing, I then took it to the police but they said they did not have enough evidence to convict him, what about his confession in front of two reliable witnesses, a bunch of worthless people.. I also had to recount the whole ” experience” to different men in rooms by myself and they did nothing!!!!

7. I gave birth three times at home and twice in the hospital, I loved the times at home, being with my family, it was a very intense experience every-time.

8. I have only been in love once, currently with the man I am married too

Today was one of those days that was way too packed, we got up early(for me) and drove 1 1/2 hours to the homeland security office, we waited there with our “appointment” for 2 1/2 hours I finished my book “Embers”, we were starving when we left and right when we were leaving we got a call from our bank telling us someone had made a costly purchase with our credit card for 500 dollars at ” C -oach” we have no Idea where or how it happened, but it did not go through on our credit card, we then went out to this cute little french restaurant it was really good, on our way out of the big city we stopped by my friends maternity lingerie studio and I got fitted for a padded nursing bra and I bought a cami, it turns out she is going to be in Montana the same time we are so we may hook up sometime while we are there.
I came home got on my pajamas and got in bed, after feeding Hope twice, she was starving.
My parents came over with the boys and stayed till 10, D made us adults lemon drops, the kids made cookies and cinnamon rolls with grandma earlier in the day so we had some of those.
Tomorrow is going to be busy as well, I am so glad we are going on vacation.
Oh and I have a fish bone lodged in my throat somewhere….sigh…

Pingers June 2, 2007

Filed under: Mothering, food, life, love, travel — emmelia @ 7:10 am

Judy is so funny, I was telling him tonight how Basil for one day does not suck on his “pingers” anymore, I said “do you want to stop sucking your pingers to soon?” he said “Nooooooah” (silly mom), I asked him what they taste like ” they taste like
nofing….. long pause…..they taste like chocolate!!!!!
No wonder why you want to suck them all the time!
Basil told me yesterday on his birfday that he is five now and five year olds do not suck on their fingers! he also told me today that he doesn’t really like parks, as we were on or way to one for our little birthday date, and he ordered salmon, yogurt milk, a onion roll and a chocolate chip cookie he skipped the chocolate chip cookie and pretended to be a cheetah instead refusing to talk to me because cheetahs don’t talk he said interrupting his cheetah play to tell me to stop talking to him.
Tomorrow we are going to a zoo in Canada for his birfday to see cheetahs of course.( I hope they have them as long as they have rinos we will be fine)

Summer in Naples June 2, 2007

Filed under: Mothering, food, large families, life, love, travel — emmelia @ 6:21 am

Summer 05
I am missing home and every thing large, mostly large booty’s, refrigerators, and large showers, also clean laundry that you don’t have to ring yourself and then wait a day to dry outside, it takes me less time to wash by hand then to use the washer, I wondered why this lady was chewing out her 1 1/2 year old for sitting on the ground now I know she’d have to work her bottom off washing his trousers for a day.
Also they ONLY eat italian food in ITALY!! enough said..
I had an interesting experience tonight, we are staying on this farm that has water Buffalo I thought it was a clever name for COW but they are these cows that like the water and they call them Water Buffalo, we are kinda in a remote farming area down past Naples Or Napoli we really jacked that name up.. But anyways I took the kids for a after dinner stroll and we headed down part of the drive its stunning ,ran into a pack of dogs freaking out so turned and walked slowly the other way, and the kids saw this filthy dog that they had kinda got attached to, its the cooks dog.. it turns out and he(the cook :very old and unattractive) comes to the back of the kitchen and starts speaking his 5 words of english and we combine our 7 words or italian all meaning the same thing and meaning beautiful which he wasn’t so it was fun, he wanted to know if the kids wanted coke and they didn’t know what that was but I said yes, so he brought the kids ice cold Cokes and brought me one too!! Then he asked me if I had a husband I said YES! then asked Basil if he would like some mozzarella cheese, I wasn’t thinking buffalo so we said yes then he proceeded to bring out a bowl with three Very large balls of cheese more then you would use for a whole party of people and try’s to give one to the kids they take one glance at the balls and get a disgusted look on their faces he acts offended and like he will cry or something, we keep saying No Gratzie over and over he won’t take the balls away so finally I take one and he is overjoyed,
as I touch the warm just made oversized buffalo mozzarella ball I think there is no way I can eat this whole thing even if I liked it and if I throw it when he’s not looking his dog will find and and then we will see him tomorrow, so I start to eat it part way through he offers me another one I tell him I am so full and show him my stomach but he won’t stop persisting I don’t know how to get by with not taking another one of those gross cheese balls, so I take another one and he is oh so happy and calls me Bella, If he could only see what I do next… he leaves for a moment to set down the bowl and then probably come watch me eat it cause its so sexy.. so I look around the kids aren’t wearing anything with pockets if Jude was with me I would of shoved it down his dyper I am wearing pj bottoms cause they are my only clean clothes so I do what most normal people would do and shove it down the back of my pants then quickly tell him Mia bebe bambini adiamo basically translated into “My baby child lets go!” he said something back and I just started walking I was afraid it was going to fall out, or he may think I was picking up on him..
So I toss the balls in the trash in a bag and tie it, for all I know he could be the one who takes out the trash here and they sort everything, and come up to the apartment and tell D the whole story, he said he was wondering what the spot was on my pants..
So thats life here a daily humiliating experience ..anytime someone’s mean to us here I just tell myself when they come to my town of 3,000 people and want to sight see I’ll make it a living hell, for them and that gets me by,
I want to make a shirt in Italian that says” Yes we have 4 children” they hold up 4 fingers in my face and say quatro and congratulate d like he’s a stallion and shake his hand, we had a priest come up only to our family and give us a whole talk because he though we were catholic..
So its a love hate thing here in Italy right now its a love its calm the kids are asleep and We had a birthday party for Basil today hes 3, were at this farm for 5 more days and its heaven on earth God did good on this part of the world.. Love Love
